Solar for Africa Blog
The electric light bulb was invented in the 19th century, yet here we are in the 21st with over 600 million people in Africa forced to light their homes with dangerous, outdated, technologies such as candles and kerosene lamps. This is unacceptable for so many reasons. This site is all how the pico-solar revolution is changing the situation.

Solar Links

Some interesting links:

SolarAid – the charity I work for which has a mission to ‘Eradicate the kerosene lantern from Africa by the end of the decade.’

Sunshine is Free – new blog set up by SolarAid’s CEO, Steve Andrews

Lighting Africa –  a joint IFC and World Bank program, is helping develop commercial off-grid lighting markets in Sub-Saharan Africa as part of the World Bank Group’s wider efforts to improve access to energy.

Pico Solar Lights – interesting database which lists a wide range of solar lights now available to replace kerosene (amazing to see how many there are these days.  Only a few years ago, there we no truly affordable solar lights being mass produced for Africa.

Do it Yourself Solar – link to a true solar pioneer. Graham Knight was promoting ‘pico-solar’ solutions to rural Africa’s energy issues over a decade ago!

More to come soon!
